The chapel is first depicted on the 1883 Padley map. {1}
The Newland Congregational Chapel was built in 1876, by Bellamy & Hardy. Interior mainly refitted 1991. It is constructed from grey and red brick and ashlar, with stone dressings and gabled and hipped slate roof. Cast-iron internal structure. Early English style. The building has a nave with aisles and galleries, internal porches and lobbies and a south-east tower with spire. The New Life Church, formerly Newland Congregational Church, was constructed between 1874-6 by Bellamy and Hardy. It is Gothic with a south-west tower with broach-spire. The details in the style of c.1300 AD. There is an ornate, cast-iron, galleried interior. {3}
The present chapel is of brick with stone facing to the principal elevations is a large building in the Gothic style with a gabled south front from which the finer details of ornament have been removed. {4}
