Full Description
Binbrook's earliest Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built on the western side of the High Street. Construction began in 1815, with the chapel opening in September 1816, with seating for 300 congregants. It was converted to use as a Sunday School in 1877, when the new Wesleyan Chapel was opened on the eastern side of High Street (see MLI87311). The building was later converted to use as a warehouse at some point in the 20th century, after its religious use had ended, and was further converted to use as a private residence in 2010. The building is constructed of yellow brick and has a gabled roof. It has stone cills and a probable dedication tablet on its eastern gable, though this was defaced at some point, and it no longer legible. The original ground floor windows have been bricked in, with modern double doors now giving entrance on the eastern gable. Stell records this structure, though confuses details of its history with those for the first Primitive Methodist chapel in Binbrook, located on Mount Pleasant (see MLI98902).
