Full Description
A Wesleyan Methodist chapel, built in 1877. It is marked on the 1906 county series map and is still standing. {1}{2}{3}
The chapel was the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in July 2008 prior to its proposed conversion to housing. The building was designed by Bellamy and Hardy of Lincoln and was officially opened by the Rev. M.C. Osborn of London on June 13th 1878. It replaced a nearby and smaller chapel of 1816, which then became a Wesleyan school and Sunday School (see PRN 45868). The chapel remained in use until 2000, although dwindling congregations in the 20th century lead to various alterations such as the removal of some pews. There are several datestones around the exterior of the building commemorating its construction. It is built of red brick with exterior and interior embellishments appropriate for its original congregation of moderately wealthy farmers and businessmen. Minor extensions and alterations were carried out in the 20th century. {4}{5}
The building was included in a survey of nonconformist chapels in East Lindsey District. {6}
