Full Description

The former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Hackthorn is constructed of gault brick and a slate roof. It has a gabled porch and buttresses. The memorial stones which have been retained inside, give a date of 1881. The window glass is original. The chapel was converted into an office in 1998, at which time it was derelict. {1}{2} The chapel is thought to have been designed by the Lincoln based architectural firm of Bellamy and Hardy, who placed an advertisement in the 30th of April 1869 edition of the Stamford Mercury, asking for expressions of interest from builders wishing to undertake the construction works. It is likely that construction of the chapel began later that year. The date of 1881 given by the memorial stones may therefore relate to a later enlarging of the chapel, rather than its initial construction. {3}
