Full Description

PRN 63515 A programme of trial excavation was undertaken in advance of residential development on land off Winton Road, Navenby. The work revealed evidence of extensive quarrying in the western half of the site. Dating of these areas suggests that quarrying took place here sporadically from the 13th to the 19th centuries, and earthwork remains of this activity type are still partially visible within the local landscape. The purpose of these quarries seems likely to have been for building materials, possibly for the houses which front onto the high street. {1} {2}
