Full Description

63406 The presence of earthworks was noted by the Rev. G.Oliver in 1846: "Two camps...formerly existed on Scopwick Heath, but are now almost obliterated by agricultural operations." The first of these remains is still known as Castle Banks, and is situated on the highest part of that extensive heath. It was 80 yards in diameter surrounded by a double ditch, 8 feet high with a broad deep ditch and situated near a natural ravine towards the north, leading to another earthwork of similar description about some half a mile distant, which is now the site of some recent plantations belonging to C. Chaplin of Blankney. {1}{2}{3}
