Full Description
Rectory for the Church of St James, Louth. The building is thought to have been built in 1832, to a Tudor Gothick design of the architect J.C. Carter. It is of two storeys, and constructed of red brick, largely painted, and features Welsh slate roofs with brick-coped gables and kneelers. There are four tall brick chimney stacks with diagonal shafts. The building is thought to have been constructed on the site of an earlier thatched house, dating from the late 1780s and known as the Hermitage. The current building incorporates fragments from this earlier house, along with fragments of medieval masonry, possibly taken from the adjacent church.
