Full Description

PRN 63509 An area of significant in situ archaeological deposits were found during an archaeological evaluation. Limited archaeological excavation was undertaken on this area, involving the opening up of two 5m square trenches abutting the western edge of the evaluation trench. The excavation retrieved a sizeable assemblage of Romano-British pottery sherds dating to the 2nd to 3rd century AD, found in association with a Medieval fish trap (PRN 63508). It is likely that the juxtaposition of the Romano-British pottery and the timber settings may be somewhat fortuitous, and may merely reflect the fact that there was an area of relatively dry land to the immediate west of the site {1} {2}
