Full Description

PRN 63507 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of a new soke dyke on land at Branston Island, Branston and Mere. The watching brief identified a number of archaeological deposits and structures, including an east-north-east to west-south-west aligned ditch, c.4.6m wide and more than 0.60m deep. It seems likely that the ditch represents part of the system of dykes that were created in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to drain this part of the Witham Fen {1} {2}
