Full Description

PRN 45704 A fluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out on the site of a proposed sand and gravel quarry at Tattershall Thorpe. The survey identified traces of ploughed out ridge and furrow. They do not align with any current boundaries and appear to extend beyond the existing southwestern boundary. They align with a former path or track that once lay to the north of Walnut Farm. Two of the putative furrows are curvilinear, suggesting that they are approaching a former headland that may have lain to the immediate southwest of the site {1} Archaeological excavation was undertaken by Naomi Field Archaeological Consultancy in July 2008. In Area 1 (TF 22118 59471) three plough furrows and a possible plough furrow wre revealed. They were on a north west to south east alignment and probably dated from the medieval period. Three sherds of medieval roof tile and a medieval or post medieval brick was found along with a worked flint [PRN 48540]. A late medieval or post medeival plough furrow was also identifed. {2}{3}
