Full Description

63323 A well head with a drinking fountain is located on the east side of Main Road. It was built in 1867 of ashlar with a diamond pattern slate roof. It is octangonal in plan (although Pevsner states that it is hexagonal), and stands on a two-step raised octagonal platform. At each corner there is a column of pink ashlar, and it has a frieze inscribed with 'In memory of John and Susan Reeve...1867'. Under the canopy there is an iron and ashlar pump with pyramidal top and octagonal basin. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} There is a record of a holy well at Leadenham, known as St Anne's well. It may be where the well head now stands on Main Road. However, St Ann's well is indicated on OS second edition County Series map and the 1:10560 series, located in St Ann's Plantation, where springs are also located. {3}{4}{5}
