Full Description

PRN 63351 An archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) was undertaken prior to the construction of a compound in advance of flood alleviation works on land situated adjacent to Ferry Lane, Washingborough. The evaluation identified a substantial cut feature dated to the later Romano-British period. It was not possible to determine whether this was a large boundary ditch running into the fen from the higher ground to the south, or a single large pit, possibly excavated to quarry limestone. A number of Romano-British grey ware pottery sherds (dating to the 3rd to 4th century) were retrieved from the fills of this feature {1} {2}
