Full Description

PRN 36531 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during residential development on land between 2 and 6 Ermine Street, Ancaster. The watching brief identified Romano-British deposits comprising two episodes of dumping, both incorporating limestone. In form they were not dissimilar to road make-up, although both deposits were not extensive. It is possible that they relate to Ermine Street which lies some 15m to the west. Pottery and tile recovered from the dumped deposits was of early 2nd to 4th century date {1} {2}
