Full Description

A Roman coin of Trajan was found in 1909 on Wellingore Heath. It was purchased from the finder by Lincoln Museum. {1}{2}{3} The coin is a denarius, and is stamped on the obverse with 'IMP. CAES. NER. TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG. GER. DAC.' and shows a laureate head looking to the right. The reverse is stamped 'P.M. TR. P. COS. VI. P.P. S.P.Q.R.' and shows Fortune seated to the left, holding a rudder in the right hand and a cornucopia in the left, with an exergue stamp 'FORT. RED.' (for Fortuna Redux). {4}
