Full Description

The former General Baptist Chapel at Northgate was built in about 1800, and is thought to have replaced an earlier Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion chapel on the same site. The building was enlarged in 1827, and again c.1860, when a large, two-storeyed Sunday school block was added to the eastern end. The building is of red brick, and has extended end bays with yellow brick quoins, pilasters and parapets, and a stone plinth around the sides. The chapel closed in 1928 and was used as offices for the rest of the 20th century, though returned back to religious use c.2020. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}
