Full Description

Former malt house complex at Northgate, probably dating from the late 19th century. The complex consisted of a three-storey warehouse, which was brick-built and featured a Welsh slate roof. The building had vehicular access and openings for the receipt of bulk grain on the ground floor, with one lucam for handling sacks to the third floor and a two storey drying kiln. To the rear of the warehouse there was a two-storey block with a double-pitched roof which formed the germination floor. Behind the germination floor and parallel to the warehouse was the malt kiln. The complex continued to be used until the early 1980's for grain storage and the site was finally demolished in 1985. {1} The complex is marked on the 2nd edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map. {2}
