Full Description

63232 A Wesleyan chapel and Sunday School were built in 1840 at a cost of £600. The buildings on the site are not indicated as a chapel in the 1950s, and it is not clear if any of the original buildings survive. {1}{2} The site was visited in 2009. The chapel site is now a garden but the Sunday School may survive in the adjacent house (personal communication). The Census of Religious Returns records a Wesleyan Chapel built in 1800 and Sunday Scholars. It is unclear if this was on the same site. The early chapel was provided by a leading local Methodist. The Chapel Street chapel of 1840 was succeeded by the High Street chapel which was opened in 1926 (PRN 65610). A house several hundred metres to the south named Wesley House is marked on the 1905 OS County Series Map. This house survives and is now named The Manse.{4}{5}{6}{7}
