Full Description

PRN 13803 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during development on land at Caleb Hill Lane, Old Leake Commonside. The watching brief identified a north to south aligned ditch and a possible pond, both of which contained pottery of 12th to 15th century date. The majority of the pottery was locally made Toynton All saints ware. Of particular note were several apparent wasters that perhaps imply production of this pottery type in Old Leake Commonside. The medieval pond, along with an undated pond found nearby (PRN 13802), may be connected with salt-making. The presence of a ditch would suggest this industry had ceased prior to parcelling of the land {1} {2}
