Full Description

PRN 36524 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks for an extension to an existing building at South Lawn, St. Paul's Street, Stamford. Although no archaeological features were recorded during the watching brief, several sherds of locally made Stamford ware were recovered from a topsoil deposit. Several pieces have a pinkish fabric. This fabric colour is not overly common in Stamford ware and the relative abundance here, where it provides 40% of the collection may indicate that a kiln specialising in this type was located in the area.
