Full Description

PRN 13693 Primitive Methodist chapel is marked on the 1903 County Series Map and still survives today. {1} The former chapel is now in use as a house. The site originally lay in a detached portion of Sutterton parish and the chapel may be that recorded for Sutterton Fen in the census of religious returns. The gabled building is constructed of red brick, with a slate roof covering and gault brick and stone dressings. A date tablet in the west elevation gives a date of 1843 and another in the gable, and an inscription above the porch, give a date of 1892 at which time the chapel was altered and possibly extended to the north by 1 bay. The bays are divided by brick pilasters. The eaves and gable cornices have dog-tooth brickwork and a course of gault brick. There are 2 stringcourses of gault brick; the lower, of 2 courses, at the level of the window sills and the upper, of one course, at the level of window imposts The round headed windows have painted stone arches and keystones. The chapel has a plinth of red brick, a lean-to extension to the rear and a projecting gabled porch on the west elevation with the remains of a round-headed doorway, now a window.{1}{2}{3}
