Full Description
PRN 70372
Geophysical survey (magnetometry and magnetic susceptibility) was undertaken on a plot of land off Nettleham Road, Lincoln in advance of residential development. The survey identified a number of undated, predominantly northeast to southwest-aligned linear features. Some of these were interpreted as possible trackways, the others as boundary / field ditches {1} {2}
Trial trenching on this site revealed that the area has been subject to deep ploughing and many of the features identified in the geophysical were the result of modern ploughing or natural disturbance. However it has been suggested that the survey may have picked up remnant magnetism that was left after the archaeological features had been ploughed away. A series of undated postholes, a linear feature a possible pond were recorded as of archaeological interest but were undated. {3}{4}
