PRN 63113
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on land at Tonge's Farm, Norton Disney Quarry. The watching brief identified a series of seven parallel linear features, aligned roughly north to south across the stripped area. They varied in width from 0.90 to 1.3m, and were at a consistent spacing of 8m apart. All the features had a grey sandy fill and were interpreted as furrows of medieval and later ploughing {1} {2}
Further plough furrows were seen during the watching brief for Phase 7 of the quarry. It was suggested that they may represent 18th century forestry preparation activity. {3}{4}
