An intensive archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of a combined service trench, associated with residential development, on land at Star Lane, Stamford. Footings for two post-medieval walls were identified towards the eastern end of the trench between 1.85m and 3.5m from the Star Lane frontage. The first was aligned north to south, 0.69m wide and at least 0.53m deep and was composed of un-bonded, lightly packed and un-coursed oolitic limestone blocks, ranging in size from 0.15m x 0.10m to 0.22m x 0.15m. Footings for a second wall, aligned north-east to south-west were recorded on the south side of the trench. The foundation cut was vertically sided, 0.56m wide and at least 0.16m deep. It was filled with tightly packed, un-coursed and roughly hewn blocks of oolitic limestone. Although on slightly different alignments, the footings were thought to represent the remains of roadside structures; possibly buildings similar to that found in an earlier watching brief (PRN 36481) {1} {2}
