An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on land between Nos. 32 to 38 Wharf Road, Stamford to monitor the excavation of groundworks for an extension to commercial premises. The watching brief identified a clay silt layer measuring 0.12m thick which contained a single sherd of 12th to 13th century pottery and some iron smelting slag. The deposit probably represents an undisturbed deposit. However, the paucity of medieval finds indicate that occupation was in the vicinity, rather than directly on, the site {1} {2}
