Full Description

A chapel is marked in this location on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The building appears to survive. This may be the Baptist chapel and burial ground which was recorded in 1856. {1}{2} The building was visited in 2009, as part of a survey of non-conformist chapels in Lincolnshire. The chapel on High Street is a former Wesleyan Chapel (the former Baptist Chapel is on Broughton Road - see MLI85928). It was built in 1863, and is now in use as a house. The first Wesleyan place of worship in Carlton le Moorland was a Wesleyan Methodist Meeting House which was part of a house. The former chapel is built of red brick with ashlar dressings. It has a gabled roof with a slate covering. The gabled front has two tiers of flat-headed windows with ashlar lintels and sills. There are three windows in the lower tier and two in the upper tier with an ashlar tablet between inscribed Wesleyan Chapel MDCCCLXIII. Side elevations originally of three bays but a further bay has been added later to the west with a separate doorway. The south elevation has a flat-headed doorway between two flat-headed windows and there are two flat-headed windows in the north elevation. The easternmost windows are now blocked. The window frames have been replaced with upvc and velux windows have been inserted into the roof. {3}{4}
