Full Description

PRN 70356 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in two separate areas (A and B) at the northern end of High Street, Lincoln. Both excavations were prompted by urgently required repairs to the gas main network. In both cases, archaeological excavation were of very limited extent. However, in the northern part of Trench A a section of limestone wall was revealed at a depth of 300mm below the existing road surface. The wall comprised approximately five courses of roughly squared limestone blocks, heavily bonded/repaired with hard light brown mortar. The orientation of this wall was unclear, but it is most likely east to west. No dating evidence was retrieved from the wall {1}
