Full Description

Former school. Single storey red brick building, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Coped gables. One lateral stack to the rear. An original gabled porch with steeply sloping roof has been replaced or obscured by a half-timbered cross-gable. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a small school was built by subscription in 1849, though it is unclear whether this refers to the extant building. {2} The school is marked on the 1889 OS map of Swaton with a small extension to the rear of the building, possibly a lean-to, that is no longer extant. The building can be seen in its current plan form on the 1905 map. {3}{4} The school was closed in 1981, with pupils transferred to the Horbling Brown's Church of England School. {5}
