Full Description
PRN 23883
The chapel was built in 1856 on the site of two earlier Nonconformist places of worship. The chapel is two storeys and is constructed in brick with a hipped roof of ceramic tiles. The bricks used were handmade although later repairs were done in machine made brick. Above the main entrance is a date stone, which reads: METHODIST CHURCH 1856. {1}{2}
The chapel is marked as a Primitive Methodist chapel on the 1904 OS County Series Map but elsewhere it is referred to as a United Methodist chapel. It was still in use as a chapel in 1997 but is now in use as a house. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. The hipped roof has a covering of modern tiles. The building is of two storeys and the front elevation has three bays with a central modern doorway and porch which is flanked by two tiers of flat-headed windows with stone lintels and keystones; the upper tier is taller. The window frames have been replaced. The doorway is approached by nine steps and above the porch is set a date stone inscribed 'Methodist Church 1856'.{3}{4}{5}{6}
