Full Description

PRN 70351 Although no direct evidence of early medieval occupation was recorded during the trial trenching of the former Anchor Street works some coincidental evidence was recorded. A large assemblage of pottery dating to the late 9th-mid 11th century was recovered. Some of the sherds, of late Saxon Ware Fabric B are possibly waste materials. The pottery is similar to that found at St Marks Church, suggesting that the church might have been close to the production site. Wasters in a different fabric, Lincoln quartz tempered, were also found, indicating that this area was perhaps a focus for pottery production. {1}{2}
