Full Description

PRN 45472 An historic building survey was undertaken on farm buildings at Cow Pasture Barns. The aim of the survey was to record the existing fabric of the building prior to alterations. Cow Pasture Barns comprises a complex of outbuildings characterised by ironstone random rubble construction, with red brick detailing around opening and eaves. Cow Pasture Farmhouse to the south-west is built on the same alignment, and in the same style; it is presumably contemporary (with a construction date sometime in the late 18th century). The farmstead complex was originally arrange around a single crewyard with a large central barn and smaller flanking barns to the west and east. A north to south range of stables adjoins the west barn to the south. Sometime in the mid 19th century, the crewyard was divided by a central stone wall running south from the central barn. A later lean-to cowshed incorporates part of the dividing wall, opening into the western crewyard. A store/office of about 1890 was built against the southern boundary wall of the eastern crewyard. The northern part of the eastern crewyard was enclosed by a modern Dutch barn (1960). {1} {2} Cow Pasture Farm, Hainton. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of E plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Isolated location. {3}
