Full Description

PRN 62924 During trail trenching, a fragment of quernstone in Neidermendig lava was recovered from an alluvium deposit, which contained post-medieval artefacts. The stone had deeply incised cutting grooves, but polish on the crests of the ridges indicated that it had been used. This type of stone was imported into Britain from the Mayen/Eifel region of the Rhineland from the Roman period until the 14th century. {1}{2}
