Full Description
Earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow to the north-east of Harrington, identified on aerial photography by the National Mapping Programme. {1}
Parts of the previously identified ridge and furrow earthworks were recorded during an earthwork survey, conducted in September 2016 on land to the immediate north of Harrington House Farm. The ridge and furrow was aligned on an east to west axis at this location, with the individual ridges spaced between 7.2m and 8.5m apart. Parts of the remains at the southern edge of the surveyed area had been impacted and largely levelled by recent farming activities. {2}{3}
More extensive remains of medieval ridge and furrow can be seen on the Google Maps satellite imagery layer and on LiDAR data for this area. The remains lie to the north of that previously identified by the NMP, around Oven's Farm. They are discernible as areas of parallel linear earthworks, mostly aligned on a roughly south-west to north-east axis, but with a prominent block aligned on a roughly east to west axis at the north-westernmost corner of the site. {4}{5}
