Full Description

PRN 36482 Archaeological watching brief monitoring trenching for a replacement water main between Lower Bitchfield Church and The Old Rectory. Two access pits were machine-excavated, one at each end of the specified length of replacement main, with the remainder of the section flow-moled. No archaeological features were exposed in the two trenches except for a metalled surface assumed to be a post medieval road leading exclusively to the church. The date of this road is not known, but it is apparently respected by the cellars of a demolished sixteenth century manor house (PRN 33868) {1} {2}
