Full Description

PRN 36477 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on land at 37-39 Harrow Street, Grantham. The watching brief monitored the excavation of foundation trenches for a new residential development and identified two undated pits. One of the pits was sub-rectangular in plan, over 6.5m long by 3m wide and deeper than 0.80m. Because of its size, the pit could represent a quarry for the extraction of gravels and sands. Two fills were recorded, a yellowish brown silty sand with limestone and a mixed silty sand with brick and stone. Situated 2.8m to the east was another undated (though probably contemporary) pit which was over 1.1m long, 2.3m wide and 0.28m deep {1} {2}
