Full Description

PRN 23857 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on land at 11 Roman Bank, Gedney. The watching brief monitored the excavation of foundation trenches for a garage / store development. The investigation identified a substantial infilled pond, perhaps part of a group still extant in adjacent areas of the site. The presence of Staffordshire pottery in the earliest fill of the pond indicates backfilling no earlier than the 19th century. Any medieval or earlier deposits on the site may have been truncated by the cutting of the pond. {1}{2}
