Full Description

PRN 23855 Geophysical survey carried out prior to development at the site revealed a range of linear and curvilinear anomalies. {3}{4} A programme of archaeological trial excavation was carried out prior to commercial and industrial development on land to the north of Wardentree Lane, Pinchbeck. The work confirmed and expanded the results of the geophysical survey, exposing a series of undated palaeochannels and two undated linear features. The presence of two undated, north to south aligned ditches suggests a limited degree of human activity in the area, largely represented by agricultural practices (possibly as field boundaries). The deposits within the palaeochannels were archaeologically sterile alluvial silts and clays, representing natural accumulations formed by slow moving or possibly stagnant water. {1} {2} (NB. The palaeochannels were not given a monument number, as they are wholly natural in origin).
