Full Description
PRN 36463
Archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) on land off Belton Street, Stamford identified the footprint of a post-medieval building that had previously stood parallel to and slightly back from Tenter Lane. No buildings are depicted within the development area on the 1842 Tithe map, so it can be suggested that the structure relates to later terrace housing depicted on the second edition Ordnance Survey plan of 1901. The deep build up of rubble within and around the structure probably represents demolition of its upper courses and other related buildings. It is presumed this was undertaken to level the site prior to the expansion of the gas works into the area around 1950. {1}{2}
