Full Description

Medieval earthworks, interpreted as the remains of ridge and furrow, crofts, boundary ditches and a pond, were identified on aerial photography by the National Mapping Programme. {1} Traces of ploughed out medieval ridge and furrow were detected in January 2015, during a magnetometry survey along the proposed replacement route of a water main between East Keal and Toynton All Saints (PRN 45027a - TF 3833 6330). The ridge and furrow was identified as a series of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, mostly orientated on a roughly east to west axis, although a small area was aligned on a roughly north to south axis, indicating a likely division of the open field system here. {2}
