Full Description

Earthwork remains of medieval tofts were identified on aerial photographs by the National Mapping Programme. {1} Two sherds of 13th to 15th century pottery, four sherds of late 13th to mid 16th century and a sherd of 16th to 17th century pottery were recovered in January 2013, during a site visit to land off Sandilands, Fen Road. {2} Medieval settlement activity was revealed in April 2013, during subsequent trial trenching on land at Sandilands, Fen Road. Late medieval pottery fragments were recovered from a number of ditch and pit features, and the remains of a robbed wall footing was recorded, suggesting that medieval structures formerly fronted onto this part of Fen Road. {3}{4}
