Full Description

PRN 54835 Geophysical survey identified a number of naturally occurring topographical features; particularly magnetic anomalies indicating palaeo-channels of former river courses and magnetic signatures from peat deposits. The survey produced evidence for possible oxbow lakes towards the eastern region of the site, an interconnecting channel to the south (running east to west) and another palaeo-channel to the north. These features appear to have enclosed or encompassed a late Iron Age settlement site (PRN 54832) {1}. Trial excavation established the nature and extent of these natural features, and their eventual infilling during the post medieval period. {2}{3}
