Full Description
PRN 54832
Geophysical survey identified a number of curvilinear, linear and rectilinear anomalies denoting the remains of a multi-phased site {1}. Trial excavation produced evidence for extensive late Iron Age settlement activity; with enclosure ditches, pits, post holes and possible structural remains (in the form of ring ditches). The excavations also produced indirect evidence of metalworking in the area in the form of iron smithing and iron smelting slag, hammerscale and hearth fragments. The site was bounded by a palaeo-channel towards the south and east (PRN 54835). {2}{3}
