Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

PRN 23826 Archaeological evaluation by trial trenching identified deposits belonging to a possible palaeo-channel and, potentially, a former course of the River Welland. However, an alternative hypothesis suggests that the material could represent the basal part of truncated saltern mounds that ran along the western edge of the site, parallel to the River Welland. Pottery retrieved from these deposits date to between the 11th and 13th century, but are probably derived from earlier sources. {1} {2}
