Full Description

PRN 44718 An archaeological watching brief conducted between the 24th and 25th March 2003, identified a large post-medieval pit that may be a clay extraction pit. The single fill contained a post-medieval pottery sherd, as well as eight medieval sherds of locally produced Toynton All Saints ware (including an overfired waster body sherd) and two lumps of iron smithing slag. The waster (along with others found in the topsoil and subsoil) reflects the proximity of kilns. {1} {2}
