Full Description

A watching brief conducted during groundworks for a new residential dwelling at Church Farm, Church Lane, Saxilby (25th of September 2002 to 4th November 2002) found evidence for a possible hollow way or trackway, in the form of a shallow depression some 17m wide. The southern side of this depression was lined at the base with large cobbles and infrequent brick rubble. It would appear that the hollow way was later deliberately backfilled with sand and overlain by post-medieval and modern deposits. Although no dating evidence was recovered, the hollow way was tentatively dated to the medieval or post-medieval period. {1}{2}
