Full Description

This once fine, tall tower mill was built in 1827, initally as 5 storeys, but was later raised to 6 storeys, probably when it gained an adjoining steam mill in 1842. It worked until 1912, with the machinery being dismantled soon afterwards. The steam mill became derelict and was demolished but the tower has been allowed to remain, though the cap and sails have been removed and the structure is largely an empty shell. There were four patent sails, driving three pairs of stones, with a further three pairs in the steam mill. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5} The mill survived largely as just a shell in 1992, with no surviving internal floors and just a few beams ends surviving inside the tower. The attached former mill buildings had been largely demolished, with only a truncated part of the later steam mill surviving. Works to consolidate the tower and convert it to residential use were begun in 2002 and completed by 2005, with new attached buildings in the style of the former mill structures being added. {6}{7}
