Full Description

PRN 54816 During a watching brief in 2002, several undated pits were recorded within an area of natural clay. A sherd of mid seventeenth to eighteenth century pottery recovered from the backfill of one of the pits suggests that the pits were almost completely backfilled by the eighteenth century. The pits were thought to be clay extraction pits for local building materials. {1}{2} During a watching brief at The Spinney in March 2008, an undated sub-circular feature was revealed, interpreted as a possible dewpond. Sherds of late medieval and post medieval pottery were also recovered. {3}{4}
