Full Description

Ridge and furrow was identified in the southern part of the site adjacent to the railway line during trial trenching at East Road. Pottery and tile were also recovered. It is suggested that the alignment of the ridge and furrow dictated the alignment of later agricultural activity on the site. {1}{2} One furrow was identified in the southern part of the site (TF 07375 46816), during a watching brief along the line of a new access road. The feature was seen in section only, preventing a determination of alignment. Various subsoil deposits were noted as being present on the site and it is possible that these represent part of the medieval and post-medieval ploughsoil. One ditch found during the same project may be might be attributable to the late medieval or post-medieval period. {3}{4}
