Barlings Abbey held land in Stapleford. A tenth share of a mill, a bovate of land and pasture for 100 sheep in 'Bruch' was granted by Robert of St John and Olive his wife at the founding of Barlings Abbey in 1168 and confirmed by Henry II in 1291. (From Cal Chart R, vol III, page 390). {1}
