Full Description

Earthwork post-Medieval quarries were identified at this location during the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England's National Mapping Programme between 1992 and 1996. {1} The 1st Edition 25" Ordnance Survey map depicts a small sand pit, with two nearby ponds possibly indiciating other disused extraction pits. By 1956, a much larger area had been excavated and was depicted as a single open sand pit. {2}{3}
