Full Description

62610 The first possible reference to a church or chapel at Holme Spinney is in the Domesday Book, where two churches and two priests are mentioned. One of these may be at Holme Spinney, the other possibly being the church at Beckingham. {1} There are thirteenth century references to a chapel. In c.1200 Henry de Braibroc quitclaimed any right to have a chaplain supplied by Bardney to celebrate in his chapel. In c.1270 a chantry was set up by Gerald de Furnival in his chapel of St Leonard within his curia of Holme. By the late fifteenth century it was decayed and was transferred to the parish church at Beckingham. {2}
